Bakélite – KS 228

This striking velvety, speckled jacquard is a tribute to Bakelite, a synthetic resin that elegantly replicates natural materials, including tortoiseshell, and was widely used during the Art Deco period by designers in both decoration and fashion.

The design features irregular, lace-like light spots against a dark background, with a heightened sense of depth created by small spots mixing the two chenille yarns and complemented by subtle touches of a contrasting color in satin cotton thread.

A finishing that flattens and smooths the fibers gives this animal-inspired jacquard a short-pile velvet effect.

The four color compositions remind tortoiseshell in warm hues, from honey to fawn brown, as well as marble patterns in white and black, or green tones.
